  Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG)
   
 

LNG (liquefied natural gas) is currently the most safe, suitable for long distance transportation and directly-used clean energy. Its economy and environmental protection advantages have attracted more and more attention In recent years, LNG production and trade has become increasingly active, it has become the new focus of world oil and gas industry. In the growing energy demand background, Chinese demand for LNG is increasing year by year. In 2011, Chinese LNG production capacity was 2,890,000t/a while its annual consumption was up to 13,945,000 tons. It is expected that in 2015 the LNG annual consumption will be more than 25,000,000 tons and the production capacity will be less than 11,000,000t/a. There is the serious imbalance of supply and demand in domestic market, a large number of LNG will continue to rely on imports.

2013-2015, Chinese newly-added LNG receiving capacity will reach respectively 6,500,000t/a, 8,000,000t/a and 15,000,000t/a. In 2015, Chinese LNG receiving capacity will reach 49,300,000t/a, which is equivalent to 69,000,000,000 cubic meters of natural gas. It's expected that, during ^ The Twelfth Five Year Plan ̄, 17 imported LNG receiving stations will be put into operation and LNG receiving capacity will reach 65,000,000t/a. In China, there are more than 40 liquefied natural gas plants under construction, of which more than 20 liquefied natural gas plants have been put into operation. Annual liquefied natural gas production capacity is 5,000,000 tons. It's anticipated that, before 2015, domestic overall production capacity of liquefied natural gas plants will reach 7,500,000t/a. To 2020, about 12,000 natural gas filling stations for vehicles will be built in China. More and more large LNG filling pipeline network not only provides convenience for urban LNG passenger cars but also provides a broad space for development of intercity LNG buses and tourist buses.
 


Position of ECEC in the industry

ECEC is an earlier engineering company to be engaged in LNG project and has won a good reputation and performance in LNG market. ECEC has undertaken 16 LNG projects (excluding preliminary work) since the construction of the first LNG project in 2005. Of which, 4 LNG projects are EPC projects and more than 10 plants have started up successfully. ECEC is one of the engineering companies with the most achievements at present domestic LNG projects. ECEC can cooperate with domestic and foreign technology patent owners and provide the best technological solutions to our customers.

ECEC implemented the first LNG project in Inner Mongolia Erdos Xingxing Energy Co., Ltd. in 2005. This project is the first relatively large LNG project in China. Without any same scale project for reference and based on unsound domestic associated specification, ECEC went through study and demonstration, made reference to foreign specification and strictly implemented domestic similar specification to realize successful one-off startup and smooth production of the project in 2007. Now the project has become a domestic LNG sample project and personnel training cradle.

In ten years, ECEC has completed 16 large-sized, medium-sized and small-sized LNG plants ,more than 10 plants of which have been put into production. 8 plants achieve production scale of 1,000,000m3/d or above, the performance of the same scale is the maximum in all the country. ECEC can cooperate with many LNG technology providers at home and abroad. ECEC has many successful cooperation with the world famous LNG technology providers (Black & Veatch, APCI, SHELL) and domestic well-known LNG technology providers (Chengdu Shenleng, Fusida, Sichuan Air Separation). ECEC has cooperated with CB & I, Black & Veatch, Spanish TR in several LNG receiving station projects in China. Due to extensive cooperation with many LNG technology providers at home and abroad, ECEC can thoroughly grasp the technical characteristics both abroad and home. LNG project of Erdos Xingxing Energy Co., Ltd.: design scale is 200kt/a LNG, a double wall metallic storage tank with capacity of 10,000 m3 is adopted. The technology is PRICO® technology of BV. ECEC is responsible for providing preliminary design and detailed engineering design of the project.

Coal-bed gas liquefaction project of Shanxi Yigao Coal-bed Gas Co., ltd.: design scale is 600,000m3/d, 2 double wall metallic storage tanks with capacity of 4500m3 are adopted. The technology is MRC mixed refrigerant liquefaction technology of Chengdu Shenleng. ECEC is responsible for providing preliminary design and detailed engineering design of the project.

LNG project of China Natural Gas Guangyuan Company: design scale is 1,000,000m3/d, a double wall metallic storage tank with capacity of 20,000m3 is adopted. The technology is PRICO® technology of BV. ECEC is responsible for providing EPC turnkey project contracting service.

LNG project of Yangling LNG Investment Co., ltd.: design scale is 2,000,000m3/d, 2 double wall metallic storage tanks with capacity of 30,000m3 are adopted. The technology is MRC mixed refrigerant liquefaction technology of APCI. ECEC is responsible for providing EPCm project management general contracting service.
 

 


Source of technology

he core of the technology for LNG plant is the liquefaction of natural gas, and technology providers' licenses lie primarily in the liquefaction too.

Liquefaction and separation are hard core of LNG plant. It is not complicated in process and mainly consists of two parts: natural gas liquefaction and natural gas separation. Currently there are LINDE of Germany, B & V and APCI of U.S. and SOFREGAZ of French, etc. who are active in China's liquefaction & separation market. They have done quite a lot of researches in natural gas refrigeration and liquefaction. Based on traditional step type refrigeration, nitrogen cycle refrigeration and expansion refrigeration, a mixed refrigerant refrigeration technology with low investment and high energy efficiency has been developed. Recently, this process has been used for most domestic and foreign small-sized LNG plants.

Some Chinese Companies also joined the development research of mixed refrigerant refrigeration. In China, the companies engaged in LNG liquefaction process package design and transfer are: Chengdu Shenleng, Hangzhou Fusida, Sichuan Air Separation, Zhongyuan Green Energy High-tech Corp. Ltd. and Haerbing Xuebei, etc.

Sample project

In the light of rich natural gas resource and advanced freight service in Guangyuan district of Sichuan province, in order to save energy, reduce emissions, implement new energy resource, promote the industrial development of Guangyuan and construct an environmental protection and beautiful Guangyuan, the municipal government of Guangyuan of Sichuan province put forward the target of ^Gasification of Guangyuan ̄.

LNG project of China Natural Gas Guangyuan Company is key project of Sichuan province, and is also an aid construction project by PetroChina after the Wenchuan Earthquake. This project was started in September,2010,mechanical completion of main project was realized in June,2012, and the whole project was completed in March, 2013. Due to lack of raw gas, this project was started up in June,2014 and one-off startup was successful. Qualified product was produced, the plant passed through the performance test, both quality of product and consumption figures reach design indexes.

Liquefying unit: including raw gas receiving and feed gas compression, CO2 removal (amine unit), molecular sieve drying / regeneration and mercury removal, liquefaction and refrigeration, hydrogen gas removal, refrigerant storage and makeup, evaporation gas compression and regeneration gas compression Liquefaction section of the unit uses patent PRICO® technology for liquefied hydrocarbons and producing liquid hydrocarbon product. PRICO® technology developed by Black & Veatch has the characteristics of simple and reliable design and easy operation.

Storage and filling system: including liquefied hydrocarbons storage tank with capacity of 20,000m3 and 6 LNG tank truck filling stations. The key point of the unit is use of filling arm and flow automatic control instrument, filling operation is safe and reliable. LNG storage tank is provided with large amounts of instruments to ensure safety operation. DCS and SIS integrated in liquefaction part.

Utility and auxiliary works: including boiler house, fire pump house, circulating water, 110kV general substation, unit substations, control rooms, compressed air/ hydrogen production/ demineralized water station, waste waster collection tank, maintenance shop, storage and guard room.

Administration-welfare quarter: including office building, shift dormitory and comprehensive building

Unit control system: In order to ensure effective monitoring and control of production process of LNG as well as reliable operation and easy operation and maintenance, the scope of design of the control system covers distributed control system (DCS), safety instrumented system (SIS), field PLC control system, fire hazard and gas alarm system (F & GS), television monitor system (CCTV), general alarm and broadcast system (PAGA) and instruments (analyzer, temperature ,pressure ,differential pressure) of high accuracy which can align with the process requirements, and so on. Combined local control and DCS control from central control room shall be adopted for the instrument control system. The display, control, alarm and logic interlock protection control of important process parameters shall be done by DCS. In case of emergency to the production plant, SIS gives interlocking signal for safety protection of site equipment.
